Introducing Hotel Saint Augustine, a collaboration with Bunkhouse Hotels and Lake Flato Architecture.
Hotel Saint Augustine, a collaboration with Bunkhouse Hotels, is built on Houston’s esteemed Menil campus. The hotel’s design is a tribute to John and Dominique Menil’s personal collection, philosophy, and artistic community. Our design employs bold, saturated colors, reflective materials, and unexpected shapes to build an artful narrative . With a careful curation of vintage and custom pieces, the result is a playful yet refined destination for both visitors and locals to mingle, engage, and experience each space as their own.
The lobby of Hotel Saint Augustine was designed to mimic a curator’s private home. Composed of adjacent open parlors and seating areas, its layout is conducive to various nooks for progressive gathering throughout the day.
The rooms take cues from the De Menil’s own Houston home in River Oaks, designed by Philip Johnson with Interiors by Charles James. The custom sofas in the St. Augustine rooms are upholstered in a fabric inspired by the drawings of James and the tonal cabinets are a nod to the dressing rooms of the original house.
